as if I’ve been in a haze. I can’t seem to sleep early enough, or wake early enough, or coax enough energy out of my body to do the things I want to do. After thinking on this for some time yesterday, I came to the conclusion that I need to work on being in the moment better.
So I will try to be mindful in the coming days in hope of sending the muddling fog out into the woods behind my house, where it will curl up beside the dried-up creekbed and wait.
GRE prep is the same as ever, although I slacked off for the past few days (Christmas and all). I plan on tackling all that math I need to relearn while my little brother (and resident math whiz) is home for the holiday break.
and altogether it was pretty nice. My family gave me some cash, which will help me out until school (and, therefore, my student worker job) are up and going again. It’s definitely good to have gas in the car!
Altough, I think the Christmas MVP award goes to my mom, who got me an awesome red kimono. It was completely out of the blue and was very thoughtful.
In other news, the cat has been keeping me up lately. We’ve had to start shutting him in the bathroom because he knocks things over a LOT during the night. He has decided to respond to this situation by meowing constantly throughout the night. I’m starting to think the cat’s kind of a jerk. He was really happy when I came home, though, which was uncharacteristically cute.
Sorry for the boring post. Maybe my life will get more interesting when I’m not sitting around working on statements of purpose and GRE vocab and all that.
Okay, this is my first time updating via the WordPress app. So far so good, I guess?
Anyways, I finally finished the first chapter of W J T Mitchell’s Picture Theory. I’m pretty excited about that, although I’m not even going to pretend that I understood everything he was talking about. Or, maybe even half of what he was talking about. No matter.
I’m going to make Christmas goodies with my family in just a little while. This should be interesting considering the situation yesterday, which I may go into detail about later.
At long last I’ve been reunited with my copy of John Berryman’s The Dream Songs! (Y’know, the one I’ve read so often the cover is taped on?) I read through a couple of the poems yesterday while visiting my grandparents and I’m very excited to have that book to turn to before bed.
In other news, I’m still trucking with my GRE vocabulary preparation. I’ve been going at it so much that I woke up this morning mumbling to myself about words like “foment” and “mordant.” Half-asleep, I was trying to figure out how to put them in sentences and man oh man was that frustrating.
But I’ll keep at it, because I have to kill the GRE this February! If I do well now, I will never have to take the wretched thing again. That’s the preferred outcome.
That’s all I have for today. My boyfriend’s finally coming back to town tomorrow, so I’m very excited to see him again.
Another K-pop one this time. This group has gotten a lot of flack for twerking in the choreography for “Wa$$up,” but – hey! – if they are confident and comfortable with their bodies, good for them. Plus, the song is infectious.
headphones on, tiny dog snuggled against my leg, Christmas tree emanating soft warmth in the next room over. I’ve eaten at least two peanut butter (no jelly) sandwiches in the past two hours and I regret nothing.
I did something like five hours of GRE vocabulary prep today, and I’m revving to do more tomorrow. Now all I have left to do is finish my reading from Barthes’s Image, Music, Text and I’ll feel comfortable calling it a night.
Wow, this one sure is a blast from the past. (This is definitely showing how painfully young I am….) Fall Out Boy was my favorite band in high school. At the time I was also really into The Academy Is…, Panic! at the Disco, and Gym Class Heroes, so imagine my joy when this music […]
